Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is an often straightforward procedure to relieve dental pain and save the tooth.
Clients typically need a root canal when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of a tooth. During root canal treatment, a dentist or endodontist carefully removes the pulp inside the tooth, cleans, disinfects and shapes the root canals, and places a filling to seal the space.
Root canal is the treatment of choice if keeping the tooth that is causing the pain is the client's desired outcome. While clients naturally will feel some level of anxiety when told a root canal is required to fix their pain, most of the time, the procedure is easier to cope with than expected.

Root Canal Treatment at Edward Street Dental
With over 23 years in the dental industry, our dentists are very competent and comfortable treating root canal. We understand that this procedure, more than any other, is not enjoyed by most people. We have developed a multiple-stage protocol to make the visits efficient, effective and most importantly, comfortable.
The first visit is the key. This is when the client is suffering the most severe pain. We will diagnose and perform the initial stage of root canal treatment on the day the client presents to the clinic. This first procedure is critical as it brings the client's comfort levels back to 100%. At Brisbane CBD Dentists, we reserve one 60 minute block of time every working day of the year to deal with dental emergencies. This enables us to keep our clients comfortable when they are at their most vulnerable.
Once the first visit is completed, the client can now enjoy a return to feeling normal again. At this stage, the client can take the time to decide if saving their tooth is the desired outcome. If keeping the tooth is the goal, the client will return for a second appointment, within six weeks, to finish the root canal treatment. For extremely complexly shaped roots, we will refer our client to an Endodontist, once they are pain-free, to complete the root canal treatment.
The first stage of the process is to remove the associated pain of the infection or inflammation.

Most of our clients give the feedback that the reputation of Root Canal Therapy is worse than the reality.
When the client presents in severe pain, local anaesthetic will be administered to block the pain, and allow the treatment to be performed in comfort. This first pain removal procedure usually only takes twenty minutes from start to finish.
The client will then return in 2-6 weeks, having been pain-free in between visits, and feel completely comfortable throughout the second and final stage of the procedure.
Root Canal Dental Emergencies
At Brisbane CBD Dentists, we put aside 60 minutes every working day of the year to cater for dental emergencies. This block of time provides the opportunity for us to manage dental emergencies, especially for root canal dental emergencies.
Why do I need a root canal?
Repair & Restore Tooth Integrity
Root canal treatment is the only way to remove irreversible inflammation or infection from the tooth. Most of the time, pain accompanies the inflammation or infection.
Root canal treatment is not generally an option to choose from. It is only performed when it is absolutely necessary to treat and save a tooth from being removed altogether.
Restore or Remove? Can I just have the tooth removed?
Yes. It is always the choice of the client to decide whether they proceed with root canal therapy, and often a follow-up crown, or have their tooth entirely removed. We will discuss the options with his client and be happy to proceed in whichever direction they are most comfortable with.
