What is CEREC? Crowns in One Visit

The most effective restorative procedure available to dental patients today is CEREC (Chair-side Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics).
A CEREC tooth restoration process is a convenient and healthy way to repair decayed or damaged teeth using “tooth coloured” ceramic materials, restoring teeth to their original strength, beauty and function. CEREC enables porcelain ceramic inlay material to be produced while you wait. A process that once took several weeks and many visits to the dentist can now be achieved in a single appointment.

Procedure

The CEREC process uses the latest computer technology known as CAD (Computer Aided Design) cam. This piece of technology is the most advanced tool currently available to dentists. CEREC’s are inconspicuous and enable us to quickly repair your teeth to greater strength and stability.

The process starts with an electronic 3D scan taken of the area which creates an optical impression. The ceramic restoration is then designed and created in accordance to your tooth scan. After polishing, the restoration is fitted into place and appears and feels like a normal tooth. The process time varies for each patient but generally takes between 1 ½ to 2 hrs, not all of this is time in the chair.

Benefits

• the most cost-effective restoration process
• provides support and increased stability to patients
• protects and preserves natural tooth structure
• is visually appealing and virtually indistinguishable from the natural tooth
• only requires local anaesthetic once, making it less invasive
• behaves and feels like a normal tooth thanks to the porcelain material.

Worldwide studies prove that CEREC inlays are the longest lasting dental filling material available today and leaves you with tooth restorations that look, feel and function just like a natural tooth.

Restore your Natural Smile

There are many types of bridges varying in their design, depending on how they attach to the neighbouring teeth.  Our dentists design and choose the type of bridge that will best suit the circumstances of each individual client.

The outcomes we are most concerned with include:

  • conserving the neighbouring teeth,
  • producing a result that lasts many years,
  • providing an oral health solution to improve your lifestyle, and
  • resulting in a natural look and feel.
What are the advantages of a porcelain bridge?

A porcelain bridge will look and feel just like beautiful, natural teeth. The procedure will improve the function of your mouth for both chewing and speaking while filling out your face and enhancing your appearance.

Porcelain bridges are a great solution to replace missing teeth as there is no need for surgery. The treatment time is generally quicker as there is no post-surgery healing time, so you can be on your way to enjoying a mouth full of teeth sooner.

Porcelain bridges rely on the surrounding teeth being in good order. Crowns are cemented onto these strong teeth, anchoring the bridge and 'false tooth' with your surrounding teeth, providing a fixed and permanent solution. Unlike partial dentures where you remove your dentures - the bridge is permanently in place, meaning there is no need to remove the bridge from your mouth for cleaning. You will simply continue to maintain your porcelain bridge by daily brushing and regular six-monthly dental check-up and clean procedures.

Why is a Porcelain Bridge recommended?

Dental bridges are recommended to replace a missing tooth or teeth. They are an alternative to dental implants or partial dentures in certain circumstances.

Sometimes it is impossible to save a tooth, and a dental extraction is needed to remove pain, discomfort and any additional damage to surrounding teeth. In such circumstances, a dental bridge can be used to replace the missing tooth and provide protection to the surrounding teeth from further decay or shifting in the gum line. This way the bite is stabilised, the smile is retained and you can go about your life with confidence.

For those suffering from congenital tooth loss, a porcelain bridge also provides a solution, bridging the gap between your permanent teeth and filling in your bite.

Do Porcelain Restorations last forever?

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever! While it is possible that a porcelain restoration can last forever, most of the time it will eventually need to be replaced. Brisbane CBD Dentists provide a seven-year structural guarantee on porcelain restorations, and will only recommend a porcelain bridge if we believe it will offer a solution of ten-years or longer.

The Porcelain Bridge Procedure Using TRIOS Digital Scanning Technology

Porcelain Crowns and Bridges are manufactured by a highly skilled team of Dental Ceramists, working closely with our dentists.

The first consultation will involve preparing and scanning the teeth. Our highly advanced Trios Scanner captures a digital impression of the prepared teeth.  Next, a macro-lens digital camera takes numerous images of the surrounding teeth to accurately match the colour and character of the porcelain bridge with the surrounding natural teeth. This process produces the most aesthetic, accurate fitting, and longest-lasting porcelain restorations.

During the second visit, our dentists will permanently fix and place the porcelain restoration, creating the perfect smile for you.
